Project check

What you are dealing with

Answer a few questions and you will see what I would look at first, what it costs, and what I would do next — before you send anything.

What you are dealing with

Which of these is closest?
Why I am asking

It decides which questions are worth asking next. Nothing here is binding — you can change it later without losing your answers.

This is the one thing that lets me say something specific rather than general. If there is no site yet, skip it.

No email needed to see the take. Nothing is sent yet.

A few specifics

If you chose AODA compliance

What kind of organization is this?
Why I am asking

The thresholds and the dates are different for each, and getting this wrong is how people end up preparing for the wrong obligation. Not knowing is a fine answer — it is a short thing to settle.

How many people does it employ in Ontario?
Why I am asking

For a business or non-profit the count is of Ontario employees, and it decides two separate things: the compliance report starts at 20, the web standard at 50.

Are you considering an accessibility overlay or toolbar?
Why I am asking

They are advertised heavily and plenty of people arrive having seen one. Worth covering before anything gets bought.

Is this for a website, or for a software product needing a VPAT?
Why I am asking

Product conformance testing is a different discipline from a website audit. This tells me which of the two you are after.

If you chose Website redesign

Does the site already exist?
Why I am asking

An existing site has traffic to protect, and that is most of the risk and most of the cost. A new one has neither.

What is actually changing?
Why I am asking

A structural rebuild and a visual refresh are different jobs at different prices. This decides which one we are discussing.

Is there a working budget range yet?
Why I am asking

Not a procurement question. Knowing the range now means the recommendation can be shaped to it rather than quoted past it.

If you chose Web development & delivery

What are you building?
Why I am asking

I build content-heavy websites. A brochure site and a software product are both better served elsewhere, and I can point you at which.

What makes it more than a set of simple pages?
Why I am asking

“Content-heavy” covers an enormous range. This is the question that tells me whether it is a week or a season.

Is there an existing site being replaced?
Why I am asking

Replacing something that already ranks is a redesign — different work, different risks, mostly around not losing what you have.

If you chose SEO audit

What are you hoping to buy?
Why I am asking

These get asked for interchangeably and they are not the same thing. Worth settling which one you are after.

Do you already have pages for the things you want to be found for?
Why I am asking

An audit finds what holds a site back. If the pages are not there yet, that is the finding before anyone runs one — and it is a cheaper problem.

If you chose Google Ads & analytics

Are campaigns running now?
Why I am asking

An account with history is a very different starting point from an empty one — most of the first day goes into reading what already happened.

Is there a monthly media budget yet?
Why I am asking

Management is 15% of spend with a $750 monthly minimum, so the share you pay depends on the number. Below $5,000 a month the minimum is doing the work rather than the percentage — this shows you where you would land.

How clear is the conversion goal today?
Why I am asking

Tracking can only measure an outcome you can name. Where that is not settled it becomes the first piece of the build rather than a surprise later.

The ad account stays in your name and you pay Google directly. Does that work?
Why I am asking

It keeps the spend history and the data with you rather than with a vendor, which matters most on the day you change vendors.

If you chose Website care

What is the site built with?
Why I am asking

This decides more than anything else whether ongoing care is straightforward. Not knowing is common and completely fine.

Did I build it?
Why I am asking

A site I already know is a plan. A site I have not seen is a look first.

What response time do you need?
Why I am asking

Response time is the first thing an ongoing arrangement has to be clear about, and it is worth being straight about it early.

Timing, and who this is for

When does this need to be done?
Why I am asking

Absolute horizons only. 'This quarter' meant three weeks in September and three months in July, and the SEO lane routed on it.

The date the work has to be DONE by, not the day you would like to start.

Who are you asking for?
Why I am asking

Deliberately not 'are you the decision-maker?'. The coordinator and the referrer are how you reach the buyer.

What prompted this?
Why I am asking

Optional, and the highest signal-per-question in the form.

Roughly what budget do you have in mind?
Why I am asking

It never changes the take — it decides what I would propose first, so the reply does not open with a question.

The part that does not fit any of the boxes above.

My initial take

This looks like work I would take on.

Pick the closest service above and this fills in with what I would look at first, what it costs, and what I would do next.

Send this over and I will read it myself before I reply.

Want me to look at this personally?

That take came off a decision tree. Send me the brief and I will read it myself before I reply — which is where the answer stops being general.
